Join Gov. Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Gilchrist at the Small Business Summit

June 7, 2021
As we emerge from the pandemic together, our future looks bright. Over the coming months, we expect strong economic growth, bolstered by a $3.5 billion budget surplus and billions more in federal aid. Join Gov. Whitmer and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II on Wednesday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EDT) They will bring together small businesses, state and local policymakers, regional economic development leaders, banks and credit unions, business owners, and community organizations for a one-day, virtual summit focused on helping small business thrive here in Michigan.

The summit will include updates from key economic experts, including Gene Sperling, a Senior Advisor to President Biden and the White House American Rescue Plan coordinator. They will also engage in strategic conversations around how to provide meaningful support to ensure small businesses are successful and that local entrepreneurs are supported as our recovery picks up steam.

The insights and outcomes of this summit will ensure Michigan has the most effective policies and programs in place to deploy the critical federal resources we have available to us – from $176 million in State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) funding to nearly $6.5 billion in flexible funding through the American Rescue Plan. With these resources, we can make lasting, transformative investments in small businesses, create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, and get back to a new normal as a stronger, more resilient state. Your voice is critical in this process and we look forward to hearing from you.
