Calendar & Events Help

The Detroit Regional Chamber Events & Detroiter Events both now run on Google Calendar. There are several ways this service can be used to stay up-to-date on all of the events being held by the chamber, as well as what others are doing in the greater metro area.

Using our calendar

When you view our calendar, you'll be presented with a list of all upcoming events that we have in our calendar system. Detroit Regional Chamber events are listed in Blue. Community Events (added by you and others) are listed in Green. There are three tabs in the top-right corner of this list to allow you to change to a monthly or a weekly view.

The Top Bar

Here is an overview of how to use the buttons that line the top of the calendar:

  1. Today - In any view, this button will bring you back to the current date.
  2.  Blue Arrows - Skip ahead or back. In the Week view, these will move through the calendar 1 week at a time. In Month view, these will move 1 month at a time. In Agenda view, this will scroll down to the next group of events.
  3. Date with dropdown - Clicking on the date will drop down a month selection box that allows you to arbitrarily change the start date for the calendar.
  4. Print - Print out a list of upcoming events, based on your current view
  5. Week / Month / Agenda tabs - change the way the information on the calendar is displayed. Agenda displays as a list and is the default.
  6. Filter dropdown - Both chamber and community submitted events are displayed by default, and revealing this dropdown will allow you to choose to turn one or both of those calendars off.

Viewing an event

Regardless of your view style, clicking on an event will show that event's description and give two options: "more details >>" and "copy to my calendar". Here is that that looks like in Agenda view:

  1. More Details - This will open a new window to show the full event description. If you are currently logged into a google hosted account (either gmail or a corporate email that runs on google apps), then you'll also have the ability to to save the event to your calendar and optionally set a reminder for yourself.
  2. Copy to my calendar - If you are logged in to a google hosted account, this link will add the event to your calendar, otherwise you'll be prompted to log in.

Viewing our calendar in other applications

It's easy to view our calendar in other formats. All of these options can be found at the bottom of  out calendar.

  1. View full screen   (Chamber | Community Events) - This will open a new window and just show you our calendar. If you are logged in to a google hosted account, you should be able to see your own calendar as well.
  2. Subscribe via RSS (Chamber | Community Events) - this option is great if you regularly use a feed reader or other RSS enabled service. It is simply a machine-readable list of upcoming events.
  3. Import to your own program (Chamber | Community Events - this option is great if you want to add our entire calendar to your own program, such as Outlook. You can use this option with any software that supports the iCal format.

Submitting your own events

Submitting an event to the community events calendar is free and easy. Simply visit our calendar, scroll to the bottom of the page where you'll see the heading "Submnit a new event" and click on the "Event Title" text box to reveal the rest of the submission form.

You should fill out all of the information that you have, and your contact information is required. It's important to confirm ALL of your event details including DATE, TIME and DURATION because you will not be able to make changes once an event is submitted!
