The Detroit Regional Chamber cares deeply about maintaining a strong democracy and civil society as free enterprise and economic growth can only exist in an environment with a well-informed and engaged citizenry, confident in core American institutions and norms. With election day having come and gone, it is worth reflecting on the success and integrity of our election processes.
On Nov. 22, the bipartisan Michigan Board of State Canvassers unanimously voted to certify the results of the 2024 general election.
This important milestone points to the efficiency of the tabulation process and how the election reforms voters approved in 2018 and 2022, like early voting and no-reason absentee voting with legislatively passed pre-processing laws, contributed significantly to streamlining the count.
The Detroit Regional Chamber applauds Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and her team at the Michigan Department of State on operating a peaceful, secure, fair, safe, and accessible election. This was also made possible in large part by the diligent efforts of local clerks, election workers, and volunteers who upheld these processes. Accuracy was rightfully prioritized over speed, and the Michigan Department of State’s preparedness and fact-sharing before the election ensured this process was completed efficiently.
