Christy McDonald is an Emmy-Award-winning TV anchor, speaker, and moderator who has covered news in Detroit and Michigan for 30 years. She is currently the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sammac Communications Inc.
McDonald specialized in political coverage, in-depth reporting, and live news events, most recently at WDIV Local 4. She created exclusive streaming programming for Local 4+, which included the interview series “A Conversation With …” and the car lover spotlight “What’s In That Garage.” Prior to WDIV, McDonald was Managing Editor/Anchor for WTVS Detroit PBS One Detroit for 11 years. She created the station’s weekly flagship politics and news shows “MiWeek” and “One Detroit.” Her on-air career in Detroit started at WXYZ Channel 7 as a reporter and anchor for 10 years.
A sought-after moderator, McDonald has led lively discussions at the Detroit Economic Club and Mackinac Policy Conference. She also co-moderated Gubernatorial debates in 2014 and 2018. McDonald appeared numerous times on the PBS NewsHour and CNN, reporting on Michigan politics and Detroit’s financial crisis.
