Member-at-Large, Detroit City Council

Coleman A. Young II is the Member-at-Large in the Detroit City Council, focused on neighborhood public safety and development and helping streamline processes for minority small business development.

Before the Detroit City Council, Young represented District 1 in the Michigan Senate and served as Senate Appropriations Committee Minority Vice Chair for Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Vice Chair for Local Government Affairs, Education, Energy, and Technology, Transportation, and Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, and Assistant Chairman for the Democratic Caucus and Assistant Floor Leader.

Young also represented District 4 in the Michigan House of Representatives and was Vice Chair for Insurance, Transportation, Local Government, and Taxation.

Young is also the Chief Executive Officer of Coleman A. Young II Educational Foundation and is a member of the Tuskegee Airmen. He was honored by Ed Deeb at the July 2019 Metro Youth Day for service.

Young is completing his degree in Communications at Wayne State University. He received three certificates from Harvard University for Urban Cities: The Past, Present and Future Urban Life, U. S. Public Policy: Social, Economic, and Foreign Policies, and U. S. Constitutional Foundations.
