Daniel Howes is Senior Editor of Business and Columnist of The Detroit News. He has overall responsibility for the local and national business reports and directly oversees the autos team.
A former European correspondent for The News, Howes has reported from nearly 25 countries on three continents and in the Middle East. Before heading to Europe in 1999, he was a senior automotive writer and a business projects writer. He is a frequent contributor to NewsTalk 760-WJR and to Michigan Radio.
Howes is the winner of multiple International Wheel Awards for column writing, a four-time winner of Northwestern University’s Medill award for general markets coverage, a three-time winner for commentary from the Society of Business Editors and Writers, and a three-time finalist for the Gerald Loeb Awards, including an honorable mention for commentary in 2007.
Howes earned a bachelor’s degree in History from The College of Wooster and a master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University.
