Joel Klein, an education visionary and proven leader of change, is the executive vice president of the Office of the Chairman at News Corporation, a network of leading companies in the worlds of diversified media, news, education and information services. Within News Corporation, he is the CEO of the Amplify Education program, a leading force in data-driven instruction and digital curriculum and assessment.
Previously, Klein served as the chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, where he oversaw a system of 1,600 schools with 1.1 million students, 136,000 employees and a $22 billion budget. During his tenure, he launched “Children First,” a comprehensive reform strategy that increased high school graduation rates in New York City by 40 percent.
Klein is a former chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann, Inc., a media company, and served as Deputy White House Counsel to President Clinton from 1993 to 1995. He has a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and earned his law degree from the Harvard Law School.
