Nyah Carruthers is the Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3) coordinator. She helps facilitate the implementation of D3C3 by providing administrative and operational support to ensure the goals of this initiative are fulfilled. This involves working closely with stakeholders and community colleges to create the systemic reform needed to increase college degree attainment to 60% and reduce the racial equity gap by half in Southeast Michigan. Carruthers joined the Chamber’s Education and Talent team at the Chamber in Aug. 2022.
Before joining the Chamber, Carruthers was a Legislative Fellow at the Ohio House of Representatives. Within this position, she managed legislators’ offices by resolving constituent issues, conducting policy research, drafting legislative outreach materials, and completing other administrative tasks. Carruthers also worked as a clerk for the Legal Aid Society of Columbus, where she assisted attorneys in developing their Racial Equity Advocacy Project, which aims to identify and address racial disparities in their service areas. Carruthers received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Ohio State University.
