Philip Kafka
President, Prince Concepts
Philip Kafka is president of Prince Concepts, which owns and is activating approximately 750,000 square feet of real estate — all contiguous — in downtown Detroit. Prince Concepts acquires property, and — when appropriate — designs programming around the people and properties discovered along the way. Projects include managing the design and development of Takoi restaurant on Michigan Avenue, and the development of True North apartments.
Prior to moving to Detroit, Kafka founded a neighborhood-based billboard business in New York City that he sold to Lamar, the largest billboard company in the country. Before purchasing property in Detroit, Kafka visited 10 times over the span of a year, driving every inch of the city, working to understand it, and quickly realizing Detroit is like no place else. He studied philosophy at Northwestern University.
