Letter: Chamber and Business Groups Working Together to Help Remaining Businesses Open Safely

August 20, 2020
The Detroit Regional Chamber, in partnership with statewide business groups the Grand Rapids Chamber, Michigan Chamber of Commerce, and Small Business Association of Michigan, called on the state leadership to find a safe pathway for businesses that remain closed to safely reopen after months of closure. In addition, the letter sent to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Legislative Quadrant leaders urged them to work together on a property tax deferral solution for several impacted industries, and to pass legislation that assures employers in all sectors who take reasonable steps to follow public health guidelines will be protected against COVID-19-related lawsuits.

The letter reinforces what the Chamber and business groups have been advocating for over the past several weeks. The Chamber knows reopening some of these businesses will be complicated but we need to put in the effort to find a safe way to reopen the remaining industries.
