Diverse, equitable, and inclusive businesses have a competitive advantage contributing more meaningfully to the communities they serve.

Since Summer 2020, the Detroit Regional Chamber has deepened its commitment to supporting economic equity in the Detroit Region. In navigating this work and considering input from leaders in the field, the Chamber has a clearer sense than ever of the organization’s evolving role in this space.

Now, the Chamber refers to this initiative and these efforts as Economic Equity and Inclusion.

This moniker reflects the Chamber’s commitment to promoting fair distribution and access to economic wealth and its continued efforts to encourage the business community to embrace that a diverse, equitable, and inclusive society fosters innovation, talent attraction, and economic prosperity.

Creating a More Equitable and Inclusive Region

The Chamber values the accountability rightfully demanded of it to invest in Economic Equity and Inclusion work. To date, this has included an internal audit of processes and organizational culture, the creation of a Board of Directors committee to oversee it, collaboration with peer organizations focused on this work, the launch of a research initiative with Gallup, and the addition of an executive office within the Chamber to operate the program.
