Resources for Parents with Kids at Home

All schools in Michigan are currently closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 among students, teachers, and faculty. While this is a necessary measure to help practice social distancing and flatten the curve, this unprecedented crisis has left many parents unprepared.

There are many helpful resources for parents with kids unexpectedly out of school, from free websites for learning at home to talking about the pandemic with kids. Explore the resources below to learn more.

At Home Education Resources

AT&T Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund and Khan Academy

AT&T created the Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund to give parents, students and teachers tools they need for at-home learning. The fund also will provide resources to maintain meaningful connections and bonding opportunities for those isolated from family and friends. The $10 million Distance Learning and Family Connections Fund is launching today with its first contribution of $1 million to Khan Academy.

  • Khan Academy Resources: Available in more than 40 languages, Khan Academy offers educational practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empowers students to study at home. Khan Academy also offers free tools for teachers and parents to help them track student progress.

Bright Horizons

#FirstRespondersFirst has brought together Harvard School of Public Health, Thrive Global, CAA, and Bright Horizons to open special child care hubs to meet the needs of our first responders who need, first and foremost, to respond to the needs of their own young children. Learn more. 

Bright Horizons also launched a World at Home site that is full of activities for infants through early elementary-aged children.

They have created new educational collections for all grade levels in partnership with Common Sense Media, as well as a collection of the most current news and information on Coronavirus on X1 and Flex. Both collections are easy to find by saying “Education” or “Coronavirus” into the X1 or Flex remote.
