Sign Now: Support Great Lakes Tunnel

June 4, 2025

The public comment period for the permits needed for the construction of the Great Lakes Tunnel for Enbridge’s Line 5 has opened, and the Detroit Regional Chamber is asking members to submit public comments supporting the permit approval before June 30, 2025.

Since the permitting process began five years ago, Enbridge has conducted more than 40,000 hours of survey work in the Straits, providing its results to the permit holders. This has been one of Michigan’s most comprehensive project reviews.

Therefore, the Great Lakes Tunnel will be built safely, making an already-safe Line 5 pipeline even safer by transferring a portion of the line out of the water and into a tunnel deep below the lake bed.

“Line 5 is an important piece of energy infrastructure for the continent, providing Michiganders with critical light crude and propane extracted from Canada. Building the Great Lakes Tunnel will make a safe pipeline even safer, and getting it permitted signals the continued partnership between the two countries and the economies’ reliance on each other.”
